Nelson da Costa

My fishing passion started at the age of 4 years old, when my dad would take the family to the CT shoreline. My very first fish was a Blackfish (Tautog) and to this day they are my favorite fish to catch in saltwater. Since then, I have tried to cast a line every chance I get.

I purchased my first kayak in 2004 after returning from my honeymoon where my wife and I experienced kayaking for the first time. I quickly rigged it for fishing and have never looked back.

After spending a few years in RI as a charter Captain and fishing the saltwater from a kayak, I moved back to my hometown in 2010 with my young family. I discovered that several of my High School friends were also fishing out of kayaks, and this is when I rediscovered Bass fishing but this time from a kayak. It quickly became my new passion. I have since fished several tournaments and absolutely love it. I have also taken on the role of assistant tournament director for Massachusetts Kayak Bassin (MAKB) Western Division.

I am always ready to target any species of fish. From fly fishing for trout, night fishing for catfish, chasing top water blitzes of False Albacore and Stripers, to ice fishing. My passion for bass fishing and my competitive nature will keep me in the kayak bass fishing tournament scene for the foreseeable future but my true love, my first love for this sport will always be in the salt.

When October and November come around my fishing slows down. You can find me in my kayak heading for a duck blind or in a tree stand chasing white tails.

Being part of the TBO team means that I will be helping a great brand grow and bring this wonderful sport to so many more people.

See you on the water. Fish On!
